We’ll be the first to admit that we’re not the only home builder in Rochester.  There are many reputable builders in the Western NY region, many of whom are respected colleagues of ours.  That said, there are just as many who remain 100% focused on profit, notoriety and completing jobs in the fastest manner possible.  Why do we mention this, you ask?  Because, when you consider the vast complexity of a newly constructed home, it’s important to choose a builder who is putting your long-term happiness above their own ego.  Going the alternate route could result in many key details being overlooked, including inadvertent flaws in building materials.

The consistency of the materials used to build a home have come a long way, but are anything but perfect.  Remember, they’re made in mass quantities at mills, by machines that can have imperfections. If your builder isn’t actively looking for these prior to construction, it could end up costing you down the road.  Let’s look at a few examples to shed more light on the topic.

Notice anything odd here?  Of course not.  However, these 2’ x 4’ and 2’ x 6’ studs are not truly 2’ x 4’ and 2’ x 6’, as lumber is notorious for being slightly off-measurement.  A genuinely dedicated builder can often address this early, thus minimizing future structural issues.

Another example is tile.  Even the most pricey tile can have imperfections right from the factory.  As you’ll notice in the picture below, it’s clear that the plastic covering has not been removed, and moreover the spacing is not consistent with other tiles in-frame.

Base molding is yet another good example of why it’s important to work with a residential builder who brings a keen eye to each project.  Above, we can clearly see that the base molding isn’t completely flush against the wall, in addition to a slight gap.  Uneven studs are usually the culprit.

These are just three of countless examples on what an experienced, truly-focused home builder can bring to your project.  If you’re in the process of planning a new residential build in the Rochester or Western NY area and looking to work with a team of uniquely dedicated experts, Sortino Properties is a company you can trust.
